Program: USAID Nuru Ya Mtoto DREAMS Project Migori County
Background
Healthcare for Generations (HFG) is a local NGO working closely with local communities, implementing partners, the Government of Kenya, and public-private partners at county, and national levels. The main mission of the organization is to inspire and empower Kenyan youth to live healthy and productive lives through evidence-informed interventions and partnerships.
HFG is implementing DREAMS under the USAID Nuru Ya Mtoto Project funded by USAID Kenya and East Africa, through PATH Kenya in Migori County. Nuru Ya Mtoto aims at increasing the use of quality county-led, county-owned, and county-managed health and social services for OVC and Adolescents Girls and Young Women to reduce new HIV infections and gender-based violence. The project is being implemented in close collaboration with and in support of county health management teams, the Ministry of Health, and other host-country public and private partners, including the departments of children services, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), and public health facilities.

Job Title: Ward Coordinator Assistant
Reports to: Ward Coordinator
Job Summary
The main role of the Ward Coordinator Assistantr will be to support the Ward Coordinator to manage and ensure the implementation of the DREAMS Core Package of Interventions at the ward level. She will be responsible for the achievement of DREAMS targets and objectives. The Core Package includes services under the following four categories: Empowering Girls and Young Women (EGYW), Mobilizing Communities (MoCom), Strengthening Families (SF), and Reducing Risk in Male Sex Partners (PART).
Specific Roles and Responsibilities
- Mobilize fellow AGYW to take up AYP services within the safe spaces
- Support in registration and running of AYP CBO registered in the ward
- Represent the AGYW in DREAMS forums when required
- Participate in ward AYP activities within the ward
- Provide mentorship to AGYW within the ward she will be working in.
- Play a key role in running the safe space as their youth center, and a resource to the County as youth champions
- The Assistant Ward Coordinator will ensure the safe space is youth-friendly and well-maintained, and fellow AGYW are involved fully in determining the activities and making them youth-friendly.
- She will accompany the WC to TWGs, meetings, etc., and represent the youth voice in those meetings. She will be a key member of the County or Sub-county AYP TWG
- She will partner with the WC in making reports and presentations
Minimum qualifications required:
- Must be a resident and a graduated AGYW in the ward of application.
- Should be confident
- Adequate level of written and oral communication skills in both English and Kiswahili
- The qualified individual should demonstrate knowledge of working with AGYW, Ambassadors, Mentors, EBI Facilitators and various key government stakeholders
